Located in Manor Lane the Nuttery is the site of a cobnut orchard. The Nuttery was planted more than 150 years ago by the Marriotts of Newnham House and the majority of the orchard was gifted to the Woodland Trust by the Marriott family in 1989.
Two varieties of Cobnuts were grown and harvested for sale locally and in London. Under the trees tight rows of snowdrops were planted.
In January and February dozens of ladies from the village were employed to pick the snowdrops and pack them in bunches of 25 for sale at markets in Birmingham and Covent Garden.
The commercial sale of both the flowers and nuts ended in 1980 due to competition from foreign imports.. The Woodland Trust area is open all year round to explore because is particular beautiful when the snowdrops appear.
Now the village has gradually expanded the snowdrops around the lanes and verges and visitors are welcomed to celebrate the winter wonder of the flower on Snowdrop Sunday each February.
